Hey Middle School!

Please use the GREEN PRE-TAX SECTION PRICE of each book order!
Thank you and it is a pleasure to know that you are enjoying the treasures of reading!

Hi Parents and Guardians!
My weekly homework consists of either 20 minutes of reading per night (minimum) OR assigned reading (marked off in sections if the book contains more text).
Please assist your child with difficult words, by asking them to use the strategies that can help them problem-solve: Breaking larger words into smaller chunks, finding smaller words in larger words. Always have them identify the first sound of the words and work from there. Remind your child to pay attention to ending parts of words as well, example: small-smaller, begin-beginning.
My reading request: I am asking that all parents and guardians have their child read to them (or read with them) every evening during homework time. It is imperative that a child has someone to read out loud to because this strengthens their verbal skills, word bank knowledge, fluency in reading and as well, their reading stamina.

Not only does reading out loud to someone help build these strengths in reading, it also provides bonding time between parent/guardian and child. As well, having a book read to your child helps them to feel security, comfort and enjoyment in reading. There is nothing more exciting than having a book read to you when you are little and you can curl up, relax and listen to the story!
Please share reading and enjoy the bonding time!

October Book Orders (Middle School) from Ms. Ellison!!
Hey Everyone!! I'm sooo glad to see that there are many interested readers in our school, this is not only fantastic but super important to be reading during leisure (relax) time as well as the reading that we do daily in our work or homework!
I will be collecting October's book order on Monday, October 22, 2018 with your child's book order filled out, their name and please use the GREEN PRE-TAX section to calculate your child's order! Please include their total and I will have their orders sent out.
I am so pleased to see so many interesting book orders and only continue to encourage your children to read, read, read and when you can purchase from their book orders, we appreciate that so much because you are helping fill our classroom libraries!! Super cool!
So, with that, by 3:00 pm, Monday, Oct. 22, 2018 orders and money I will be collecting!
Thank you in advance and have a great weekend!!

Happy Mid-October, Students, Parents and Guardians!!
As you know, I have started working with my awesome students and we've been practicing lots of reading and other important parts of learning to read in my class!
As you may have noticed, I've been sending homework home to your child. This homework usually consists of 20 minutes of reading per night OR the assigned reading that I will have left in a little note in your child's book!
I strongly advise parents and guardians to be consistent with your child's reading practice in the evening. Sometimes, I will send home a book that will be for you to read TOGETHER, which usually means, there are more difficult words that your child will require your help with. Other times, TOGETHER simply means that it's a book that parent or guardian will read to the child.
Always, please, check the book and use your judgement as well on the TOGETHER books, as this book might be for your reading but for the enjoyment of both of you.
I STRESS always, if the book proves to be too difficult for the child, you will know, because they may be slightly or very frustrated. If this happens and they are not comfortable reading it themselves, PLEASE JUMP in and read to them.
We do not want to cause distress on the learning and practicing reader, we want them to enjoy what they are reading and if it is not completely within their comfort zone, then we as adults can jump right in and help them out!
You may feel you need to make a note if the book was too difficult for them and that's ok! We try new books all the time, so when one might be very comfortable, another in that level or genre may not be as comfortable or easy to read!
This is my little note for now!
I hope everyone has a great weekend and remember, on those rainy cold days when it's too cold or wet to play outside, we can grab a cozy blanket and a cozy book for enjoyment as well!!

Wow! Reading is simply the best way to get lost in a new adventure and an unexplored world!

Are you reading every night?!
Just a friendly reminder to all parents and students that students should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes per night, if not longer from either an assigned nightly read or a book of their choice or one at home. Reading does a lot of amazing things to not only the brain but the body as a whole!
For a full body workout, read a book!!

I've got a few book orders in print for December. If you wish to order, I'll be collecting the orders with money until Friday, December 8, 2017 at the end of the day (2:45 p.m.)  If you wish to place an order with me, please bring your order and money to my class anytime throughout the day before Friday. Same date and time apply for these as well! Also, if I do not have enough book orders to go around this time, you can simply look through the book order, write the item number down and pass it to me!
I have to order early to ensure that the orders will be in before the holidays!
Thank you!
