February 15, 2016 Dear Parent/Guardian:The Grade 4 class is doing a project for Heritage week – Leadership and Legacy. Our topic is Fishing Net Mending/Making and how we use fishing nets as part of our legacy of being a fishing community. We all have someone in our families who have used fishing nets, or made fishing nets at some point in their lives to help themselves make a living. The Grade 4 students have decided they want to do interviews to help put together their project about the topic. They have come up with the questions to help in compiling the information we need to put our display together at Heritage Fair week. They may just write your answers down, or they may ask if they can video/record you answering the questions. Any help you provide is appreciated. If you don’t have knowledge of your own experience, feel free to share a story related to the topic. And if you have any tool samples or net samples you don’t mind bringing to the school to put in our display please bring them in with your child or drop them off at the office directed for Grade 4. All your help is greatly appreciated.  We have a deadline of Thursday to gather our information together to put together Friday, for display on Monday. Thank you for your time,  Miss Ward and the Grade 4 class

Just a note to parents about homework. You may have already noticed that your child is recieving some homework which consists of word work activities and reading at this time. I encourage you to help your child with these activities, as conversation usually helps to develop their understanding of how to use the words in context.I will also be including their spelling words for the week from now on so that they can practice for their spelling tests on Friday. I send these activities home because I feel that they help your child to be better readers and writers as they work on their school activities. If they are able to expand their vocabulary and word choices, and are able to spell correctly, they are better able to read and write new material and understand what it is they are reading and writing much more easily. I will eventually include multiplication tables to study every night as these will help your child later in the math program as we start to multiply 2 digit numbers. I feel knowing the basic math facts will help them with the simple work as we progress to more challenging work. The checklist provided is helpful and I will write small notes from time to time about performance, missing assignments or other information as the year progresses.  Let us work together to help your child in their education.

Grade 4 has created their food bank box and it's ready to be filled. It is located at the front lobby of the school, just beside the Traditional Medicines display case. Any boxed, canned or bagged NON-PERISHABLE food item is welcome. Our first drop off is at Christmas Time. Remember, we want to help fill the box weekly if we can to help our local food bank center, The Alnwick Family Resource Center in Neguac.  Severel people in and around the community access their resources and programs. It is our community responsibility to help out this very needed and appreciated resource of good will.  Thank you in advance! Miss Ward and the Grade 4 class.

Hello Parents and Students,Welcome to another year of Grade 4! I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of your children during this school year and helping them to become better at their skills and abilities as we navigate through new waters of learning and fun. A notice outlining important dates has been sent home with your child. I ask that you review that notice and make note of the new lunch price of $2. This can be paid in advance or daily, and if you review the weekly lunch menu, to please make arrangements to have a lunch brought with your child so that they will have their lunch for that day. I will not be letting children call minutes before lunch to have one brought to avoid any crowds and chaos in the front office. Please review the week's menu, which is often posted Sunday night or very early Monday morning. Dental forms and student information forms have also been sent home with your child on this first day. Please fill them with up-to-date information and have them brought back in as soon as is possible. Thank you! Make note of other important dates such as Meet The Teacher night - Thursday Sept 19 from 3:00 - 5:30 pm. I look forward to meeting all the parents to discuss what we will be learning this year, to answer any questions you may have and to start building a strong home-school relationship/connection to help your child be even more successful this year!! Friday Sept 27 is picture Day!!! Get those haircuts and fancy digs out to commemorate the growth and change your child has undergone over the brief, but productive summer they just had.  Drop in to my page when you can. I will post important dates and events and share pictures as needed to help you enjoy what your child is learning and enjoying as the year progresses. As always, if there are any questions or concerns, feel free to call to make an appointment so that we can discuss them.  I look forward to  a wonderful year with your child! Yay! Miss S. Ward
